7 Non-Book Gifts for Your Book Lover! - List

Hello, everyone! The season is upon us, and you know what that means! It's time for friends, family, and presents! But what should you get for your favorite bookish giftee? Well, the most obvious answer would be a book. However, if you don't get a list of books from your friend or family member, it's hard to get them a book they'll actually like and one that they don't already have. So, to save you the hassle, I've made a list of bookish items that aren't actually books that your book lover will love! Let's get onto the list!

The first idea is for your friend who loves a hot beverage with their favorite book. No, it's not a mug. It's a set of tea, Novel Tea to be precise. It's 25 packets of English Breakfast tea featuring quotes from classic books. At $12.50 a box, it won't set you back too far this Christmas. You can purchase Novel Tea here.

Up next is a gift idea for your bookish home owner! It's a quote that goes on your wall! I particularlly like this one because it's good for any type of reader. It's $16 with $5 shipping. Also not too bad for your wallet come the holidays.

"The World Is a Book"-St Augustine Vinyl Wall Decal

The next item is from the famdom hub, Red Bubble. They have a ton of different fandom prints that you can put on just about anything. That includes mugs, blanks, posters, and pillows! I chose this print because it features some of the most recognizable fandoms, but it also sends a message. I chose the pillow because every reader needs a good pillow to rest their head as they read. This pillow costs $18.99, but you can also get the print on many other items.

The next gift idea is for the more adult reader. It's also a little bit funny, but I had to add it to the list. It's a set of shot glasses with with portraits of famous writers with quotes on the other side. they may not get much use out of it, but I'm sure you'll get a laugh. You can find them here, and it'll cost you $16.95.

Great Drinkers Shot Glasses

Up next is another piece of home decor, and it's for your friend that really wants to make a statement. It's a map of different fictional places put together, and it looks gorgeous! This is the one present that will cost you a little bit of dough. It'll cost you around $38 (it's in pounds, which means you'll probably pay a pretty penny for shipping too). But if you're still interested, you can find it here.

Book Map - Original Open Edition

The next gift is for your favorite book and chocolate lover. It's a set of chocolate bars that look like leather book covers! They come in both mild and dark chocolate, and it comes with 3.5 ounces of chocolate goodness in each box. This set will set you back $20, but it would be worth it for your reader who loves a good bar of chocolate.

Book Lover's Chocolate Gift Set

The last gift is one I find hilarious, but also something I would totally like to try. They are called prism glasses. This is for the laziest of readers (*cough* me *cough*) because they allow you to read a book laying down with the book chilling on your lap. It's $15, but if you have Prime shipping on Amazon, it ships for free! You can find it here!

Prism Glasses, Prism Eye Glasses or Bed Prism Spectacles

Update - Things Are Getting a Little Dicey

Hello, everyone! I'm back, and I'm here to give you a quick update! Things are getting a little hectic around here with the holidays and work doesn't stop for the holidays. I've also got a couple of exams coming up and a fifteen page paper that refuses to write itself. I need to read a couple of books before exam time, and I'm freaking out a little bit. But come December 9, all I have to worry about is work, which means I'll be able to squeeze in some reading time.

So it looks like we won't be getting the TBR list all the way down this month, but no worries! There's always next month!

Bookish Things I'm Thankful For - List!

Hello, everyone! I’m back, and I’m here to give a list of all of the bookish things that I am thankful for. With Thanksgiving approaching, it has put me in a festive and thankful move, and what better way to show it than by making a list of bookish things in which to be thankful. Let’s get started!

First, I’m eternally grateful for my never-ending TBR pile. It’s consistently being refilled with new and imaginative works of fiction that take me to worlds I couldn’t dream of. And while there is a slim possibility of me ever finishing my TBR pile, there is, however, a chance of me finding my next favorite book.

I’m very grateful for book-to-movie adaptations. Whether you love them or hate them, they provide us an opportunity to see the worlds we love on the big screen. Sometimes they get it right, and sometimes they break our hearts. But, it starts a discussion about our version and theirs, and it makes me happy to be a part of the conversation.

I’m thankful for Amazon Prime, a service where I can get any book I want sent to my kindle or a hard copy to my apartment in two days with free shipping. What I’m not grateful for is the impact this service has done to my wallet; however, my bookshelf will be eternally indebted.

I’m thankful for my book club and my graduate classes, which has expanded my literary horizons. I have read books this year that I would personally never pick for myself, but I found myself surprised and often giddy over some of the titles I’ve read. In fact, one of my favorite books this year has been Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and I only picked it up for Booksplosion. So again, I’m very grateful for Booksplosion and my classes for getting me out of my box.

I’m also grateful for my recently updated GoodReads account. Yes, I know that is a very strange thing to be thankful for, but it’s such a great tool for readers who want to stay update. It tells me when my favorite books come out, and which books I’ve already read and rated. It also gives me the chance to see what everyone else is reading, and if everyone I’m following is raving about a book, I definitely want to check it out for myself.

Lastly, I’m thankful for this blog. It gives me a chance to read, watch, create, and review. It gives me a platform to do what I love and to share what I love with the rest of the world. Having all of you here to read what I think makes me feel special. Having all of you lovelies care enough to come back every week makes my heart happy. I only hope that I will continue to produce something that will make all you lovelies happy and coming back for more.

Now, I know a lot of you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, but if you want, take a day out of your week and find something that you’re grateful for.

So, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little post of bookish things to be thankful for. Mockingjay Part 2 - Movie Review!

Hello, everyone! I'm back, and I'm here to review Mockingjay Part 2 - the movie! I just saw the movie last night, and I can't wait to tell y'all all about it. Just in case you are unaware, Mockingjay Part 2 takes place where Mockingjay Part 1 leaves off. Peeta has just been saved from the Capital, but they have changed him. He thinks Katniss is a mutt who lies and kills everyone he cares about. Katniss has her own problems. She wants to be out on the front lines, but President Coin is holding her back. So who is the true game maker? But enough about that, lets' get onto the review!

Let me just say that this movie made me so happy. It was scary, thrilling, emotional, and both character and action driven. Everything was shot beautifully, and the world that they created was fully realized, which, as a fan of the book, was what I looked forward to most in the adaptation.

I loved all of the character development that happened throughout the movie. We get to see a three-Gale and Peeta in this movie, which is great considering for a while they were just love interests for Katniss. And let's be real, she doesn't need a man to create some drama.

As a reader of the books, I was very surprised by how true to the books they were being. The elements that I found to be really interesting in the books made it to the silver screen, which of course made me very happy, except for one aspect. Now, one scene was straight out of the book, and it seemed like they took the dialogue verbatim from the book. Usually, this would make me ecstatic. However, it did not play well on screen. It was just really cheesy, and compared to the seriousness and dramatic tone that the movie had set up, I just didn't see it fitting into the final product.

For those who did not read the books, there were a few things that they were prepared for, while the rest was kind of what they expected. Some of the more tragic scenes in the movie were considered a surprised. However, there was a part that they kept building and building, so when it actually does happen, some found it a little anti-climatic.

One thing that they did change that I absolutely adored was Effie. I was so happy when I found out that she had made it to the last to movies. I mean, with Elizabeth Banks, you can't really go wrong. She gets a wonderful scene with Haymitch that made my heart happy, and you just know that they did it for the fans. But it didn't seem contrived.

I thought that the progression of the movie was pretty good, considering it's the second part of a story. There were some definite lulls that could have been shortened by a few minutes, but I kind of expected that. But, there were also parts that had my heart pounding, my hands covering my face, and my body curling up into a ball for some really intense moments. It definitely helped the pace, but I would have still preferred those other moments to be cut down a tiny bit.

Overall, I was pretty darn happy with the conclusion to this series. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this, but go out and see the movie!

I would also like to give a little apology. This was supposed to be Friday's post, but things got a little crazy around here with the holidays coming up, but I will have something prepared for Wednesday. So come back and see me!

How to be a Heroine - Bella Swan

Hello, everyone! I'm back, and I'm here to do another edition of How to be a Heroine! While I will still be continuing the Katniss edition featuring her fabulous archery skills, I figure I would star another heroine that hasn't got a lot of love. In case you haven't guessed, I'm talking about Bella Swan from the Twilight Series. I've always appreciated the way that she takes care of people, even if it doesn't her role. She's the child of Renee and Charlie, but she finds a way to take care of them, including making a great deal of their meals. So today, I'm going to try my hand in the culinary arts and share the results here! Let's get started!

About a week ago, I found a really cool website that makes dishes inspired by books! It's called Allison's Wonderland Recipes (you can find it here), and I'm really excited to try a lot of the different dishes that are featured on the site. I decided that the recipe that I would try first is Peeta Mellark's cheese buns, which you can find here. It's inspired by Katniss's favorite pastry that Peeta makes in The Hunger Games series, and it involves cheese, which I love.

Here's all of the ingredients that I used.

I did use lactose-free milk, and I'm not sure if that made a difference or not, but I thought that I would specify. Other than that I used the same ingredients and measurements supplied by the website. However, I wasn't sure how much salt I should add to the butter mixture because the website says "1/2" but not of what. I just added enough where I felt like it was in a good place.

Here's what my mixture looked like.

I thought that it ended up being a bit sticky, so I added the advised 2 tbsp of milk, and I found the mixture to be the consistency that I was looking for.

Here's the mixture formed into little balls for the "buns."

At this point, I was a little concerned that I didn't have a baking tray big enough to spread them out further than I did, but I was overall happy with the results.

Here's my results!

They ended up being flatter than I thought they would be, but they were soft and fluffy on the inside and golden brown on the outside, which is a miracle considering my oven has been turning everything into charcoal.

The only two things that I would change would be the amount of sugar and cheese I added to the mix. I felt like the end result was much sweeter than I expected to be, and I was missing the cheesy element to the biscuit. I will probably add less sugar and more cheese for my next attempt, but as an after dinner biscuit, these are pretty good!

Overall, I was very surprised by the results. I've never been an expert in the kitchen, and the amount of fires I have set to microwaves and ovens made me believe it was something I just wasn't cut out for. This has changed my mind a bit. I'm excited to try new recipes and share them with my family, especially now that the holidays are rolling around.

Well, that's it for this post! Allegiant - Trailer Reaction!

Divergent Series: Allegiant - Tris and Four Character Posters

Hello, everyone! I'm back, and I'm here to react to the Allegiant Official Trailer - "The Truth Lies Beyond" movie trailer! This trailer has just dropped today, and I can't wait to see it. I was really surprised by the characters posters (you can see Tris's poster above), and I'm wondering how it was translated from the movie. I have also seen some GIFs on tumblr from the trailer that has left me with some question marks, but overall, I have no idea what to expect from the trailer. With that said, let's get on to the reaction.

Just in case you haven't read any other reactions from me, let me tell you how this is going to go down. I'm going to put the video down below, and then I'm going to type out my thoughts as they happen during the video. Then, I'll talk about the overall feeling of the trailer. Let's get started!

Mama Four is starting off with a voice over. Move over, Jeanine!

I love how the last movie was like, "We can go beyond the wall!" Now this movie is like, "JK, guys. We don't really know what's out there."

What!? This just turned real Star Trek-y (or Star Wars-y? You decide!).

Yep, we were just invisible. But it's totally safe. Trust us.

OMG, four has a fan base, and I'm dying! Don't they know it's not about him? It's about Tris! Get it right, LOL.

Peter - keeping it real since they climbed over the wall.

The technology is insane!

Well, would you look at that. Tris is toats special.

Wait, what? Did that happen?

Well, maybe we'll get our act together enough to beat the - oops never mind. Forgot who was in charge.

What was that? But for real?

Okay, so I did expect it to be a great deal different from the book just because that's what happened with Insurgent, but I have to say that I didn't expect this. It's just so different that what I expected, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. There were a few cute/impressive moments, but for the most part, I was confused. It does look a bit out-there (or space-y), but I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to label it as ridiculous or appropriate.

I also have to question making this into two movies. I don't see where they're going to split up the plot, which makes me wonder what the story is going to focus on the next movie.

Overall, I'm feeling excited and nervous about this movie. I'm sure we'll be seeing more promotions as March looms closer, and then we'll really see what this movie is made of.

Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined by Stephenie Meyer - Book Review

Hello, everyone! I'm back, and I'm here to review Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined by Stephenie Meyer! Just in case you didn't know, this is still the story of Bella and Edward except now they're Beau and Edythe. That's right! All of the characters from the original Twilight story are genderswapped except Charlie and Renee. But was it a stroke of genius or a marketing ploy? Well, let's find out in the review!

Let me just say that all of the new names are ridiculous. I don't know if it's because I'm expecting one thing and getting another and that is what is making me anxious or they're actually that weird... I'm going with actually that weird. You can definitely tell who they were before the name change, but it's also definitely very strange.

I love how the characters acted the same despite the fact that their genders were swapped. Emmett-now-Eleanor was still the strongest of the coven. Alice-now-Archie was still pushy and exuberant, and so on and so on. There were a few details here and there that changed, but overall the personalities remained the same.

It was interesting to see some of the dynamic changes that were made. Suddenly you have women as the leaders of the covens, while the men played a more secondary role. You also had Jacob-now-Jules who works on her car on the weekend. Mike-now-McKayla may be my favorite. She is really into Beau, and she tries to get on his good side by helping him n P.E., which could end up being emasculating but it totally works. The bro code was also mentioned, which I found hilarious.

There has been a little talk about how this is just the same story over again, and I agree. This is the same story, but I will say that the ending is quite different. It ends very definitely and it doesn't leave you questioning, "What happens next?" Which is nice considering we're probably not going to see three more books from Beau's perspective, and it added a nice little twist. But overall, it feels a bit like a workshop project than a whole new story.

I will say this: this book made me really happy. While it may not be Midnight Sun, I was happy to see another book based in the Twilight universe. It made me crave Twilight, which led me to reading a lot of fanfiction over the weekend. If you liked Twilight, you will like this book, and I love Twilight. That means I'm giving it four green apples out of five.
