Merchandise Review: Jace's Stele Necklace

Hello, everyone! I'm back, and I am back with a sort of new series. Really, it's something that I've been doing for awhile, I just haven't had the time to really organize everything. What I'm doing is separating what I've been calling Product Reviews into two groups called Merchadise Reviews and Movie Look-a-Likes. Basically, Merchadise Reviews will be reviews on products that are inspired by a movie but not featured in the movie. Movie Look-a-Likes will be products that were either used in a movie or made to look like a product from a movie.

This post is going to be a merchandise review of The Mortal Instruments City of Bones stele necklace. The pendant is a silver stele that is a miniature version of what Jace uses in the movie. The chain is a simple small link chain with a clasp. This necklace use to retail for $12.99. I bought mine at Books-a-Million but there is a chance that these were also sold elsewhere.

Let's start out with what I really like about this necklace. The design is simple and really pretty. I enjoy the way that it sits on my neck. It's not to long, and it's not too obtrusive. It's not a piece that people who notice at strange or different, but it is still iconic enough that other Mortal Instruments fans will know what it is.

There was something that bothered me, and it has happened to other Mortal Instruments merchandise. As some of you may know, my Jace necklace that was made by the same company broke after a days of wearing it. Now the same thing has happened to this one. The chain broke two links away from the clasp. It seems like this is a common problem for this company's products, at least the necklaces. It wouldn't be so bad if the necklace were a little cheaper, but then again it was also easy to fix.

Just for reference, I'm going to tell y'all how I fixed my necklace. As you can tell by the photographs, one of the links came apart where the hook meets the chain. Luckily I had left over links from my last repair job and a pair of jewelry pliers. I was able to get the both of these, the first time my necklace broke, was under five dollars at Wal Mart. I simply separated the link, flossed it through both sides of the chain and then reconnected the link with the pliers.

So while I had to fix my necklace after one instance of wearing it, I still really like it. I got it at a discount, and I really like the style of it. I was able to fix it, and so far I have had no other problems with it. If you can find it for cheap and really enjoy the Mortal Instruments, I would suggest getting this necklace.
